June '08 update:
There are only a few
sanctioned cattle shows left
for the 2008 year. Numbers
have again declined as far
as cattle members except for
the shows that hold two
rings or two different
sponsored shows on one
weekend. If any of the JNC
members have any input with
any shows for the 2008-09
year, please try to get the
show committees to consider
holding their show in
conjunction with another
group's show on the same
weekend or do a two-ring
one-day type of show. This
is going to be a key factor
for several years to come as
there is not an end in sight
for the high cost of oil and
what is is doing to our
economy, lifestyles, and the
luxury of going to a
progress show every weekend.
On to another topic... the
merger with another group
that will include multiple
species will happen after
November 2008. The major
sponsor of this venture has
changed, and now it looks
like some extra time is
needed to make a smooth
transition. Just a reminder
to all JNC members to let a
board member know if your
points need to be
reconsidered/refigured for
any show. Give us
suggestions for improvement.
Hopefully all members with
purebred animals have or are
going to be participating in
your breed organizations
state/regional/national
shows... progress shows are
not the end but just the
beginning of building you
skills, gaining knowledge
and networking with others
who share your passion for a
certain breed of cattle.
Remember that we are junior
cattlemen with hopes to be
part of the big picture of
the livestock industry in
Nebraska one day. That is
the ultimate "prize" for
being a member of the Junior
Nebraska Cattlemen.
Sincerely,
Klaire Jorgensen, JNC
President
P.S. Watch for the new date
of awards program this year.
Advisor Kelsey Lamb is going
overseas again for another
year's tour of duty. We will
try to hold awards during
the Nebraska State Fair
before she leaves. Keep
checking the website. |
