Scholarship Eligibility
A. Must be an Iowa resident.
B. The applicant for the scholarship for 2009 high school seniors must
be a current member of the Iowa Junior Beef Breeds Association (IJBBA).
C. The applicant for the scholarship for current college students must
either be a current member of the IJBBA or a former member of the IJBBA.
D. Contestants are not limited to attending a four-year college -
vocational schools, trade schools and community colleges are also
acceptable.
Amount of the Scholarship
A. Two scholarships will be awarded for high school seniors graduating
in 2009. It will consist of one $750 and one $500 per year for two
consecutive years that the student remains in school with a maximum of
$1500 and $1000 total. Should the student drop from school, the
scholarship is permanently terminated. If, for example, the winner
attended the American Institute of Business on that institution’s 20
month program, the individual would receive a maximum of $750 or $500
unless after completing that program, they would immediately transfer to
another school that would accept the credits they had already earned. In
that case, the maximum scholarship amount would then apply.
B. Two scholarships will be awarded to students who have completed
either one or two years at a four-year college or university, vocational
school, trade school, or community college. It will consist of one $750
and one $500 per year for two consecutive years that the student remains
in school with a maximum of $1500 and $1000 total. Should the student
drop from school, the scholarship is permanently terminated. As
explained under item A. above it is acceptable for the student to
transfer to another school during the effective period of the
scholarship.
PAST WINNERS OF THE HIGH SCHOOL IJBBA SCHOLARSHIP ARE NOT ELIGIBLE FOR
THIS SCHOLARSHIP.
Selection of Winners
A. All applications will be forwarded to the IBBC Scholarship committee.
B. All applicants will be interviewed at the IJBBA Summer Field Day for
final consideration for their respective scholarship.
C. The final winner of each scholarship will be selected by outside
judges. A minimum of three qualified judges will be used who are
accustomed to dealing with scholarship applications.

Student Scholarships:
There is NO FORMAL Application!!
Applicants must present the information requested in an Original and
Self-Made Format.
A. Neatness of Application which must be in the applicant’s own
handwriting – no computer or typewritten essay – 5 POINTS.
1. Use of language
2. Spelling
3. Punctuation
4. Penmanship
B. Personal interview. The ability of the applicant to sell themselves –
20 POINTS.
C. Scholarship. A transcript of the applicant’s high school or
university, vocational, or trade school grades – 10 POINTS.
D. Past accomplishments with cattle – 10 POINTS
E. Leadership accomplishments – 10 POINTS
F. Initiative and participation. The ability to start, stay with and
finish a project. This should include extra-curricular activities at
current school. In the case of post high school applicants, credit will
be given to students employed to assist with school expenses. – 25
POINTS
G. A handwritten essay of up to 500 words on “I feel an important issue
facing the cattle industry is __?__. It is important because __?__.” -
20 POINTS
Deadline for Applications
A. All applicants, purebred and crossbred, must have their applications
postmarked into the Iowa Beef Breeds Council on or before June 1, 2009.
Judging of Final Entries
A. Will take place during the Junior Iowa Beef Breeds Summer Show. The
exact time will be determined by the availability of the judges and will
be made known to the applicants as soon as it can be determined.
Scholarship applicants must be able to be present, in person for the
interview in order to be eligible for the scholarship. Absolutely NO
PHONE interviews will be allowed. It will not interfere with any
applicant showing cattle during the June show. Scholarship winners will
be announced on Saturday of the IJBBA Summer Field Day.
Financial Support
The scholarship program is funded through generosity of corporate
sponsors and through the sale of commemorative expo pins sold annually
by members of the Junior & Senior Beef Breeds Council. The Iowa Junior
Beef Breeds Association sincerely appreciates the support of it’s
corporate sponsors who have each contributed $500 toward this very
